In addition to your solar panel or panels, you will need a controller in order to manage the charging of your batteries. We recommend the intelligent control provided by an MPPT device and will guide you to the appropriate size for your system e.g. For a 12V system: a 10amp MPPT will manage up to 130 watts of panel, 20amp for up 260 watts or the 40amp takes you up to 520 watts. For a 24V system, you can double the above wattage. These devices stop your battery from being overcharged and stop other charging systems from damaging your solar panels.
- Top Tip: Site your controllers as close to the battery bank as possible to minimise resistance. If the cable run is longer than 3 metres, use a heavier cable e.g. 4mm pre-tinned twin core.
